a doctor's journey


from the beginning of time and in every era saving life had been considered as most noble of any deed. today, though, it has turned out to be a profession, but it still retains the dignity.
what to do to be a doctor, is what we have been constantly discussing. today, i would love to discuss the life after pmt i.e when you pursue your dream career

subjects in mbbs:
you must be aware that total duration of mbbs is 5 and 1/2 years. in this duration, three mbbs exams known as professional exams are taken and subjects are divided as the syllabus for the examinations
in the first professional exams para clinical subjects i.e anatomy, physiology and biochemistry is included
in the second professional exams pathology, microbiology, pharmacology and forensic medicine are included
in the third and final professional exams surgery, medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, opthalmology, otorhinolaryngology(E.N.T) and preventive & social medicine are included
now, with semester system enforced, exams are conducted every six months unlike the yearly schedule earlier. each semester is of six months and contain three subjects

clinical postings:
during the clinical postings in various departments of the hospital associated with the medical college, students discuss and learn the practical points to care, cure and manage patients, making it most interesting and important feature of mbbs

internship:
after completing 4 and 1/2 years of studies and passing the final exams, the students have to undergo compulsory rotatory internship which is 1 year duration. during this candidates are posted to various departments to gain the experience in treatment
the posting schedule is generally-
medicine(1 and 1/2 months), obstetrics and gynaecology(2 months), surgery( 1and 1/2 months), preventive and social medicine(3 months), paediatrics(1 month), family welfare(1/2 month), skin and std(1/2 month), orthopedics(1/2 month), opthalmology(1/2 month), ent(1/2 month) and 1/2 month to (optional) anesthesia/ blood bank/ clinical pathology/ dental/ psychiatry/ radiology/ pediatrics' surgery

after successful completion of internship, mbbs degree is awarded

after mbbs degree, if doctor wants to practice in india, he/she must get registered with medical council of india which provides permanent registration number to all doctors and maintains indian medical register

if after mbbs, one wants to go abroad to practice and study more, then they can appear for PLAB(for uk) and USMLE( for usa)
dotors can also appear for various pg entrance tests to continue post graduation in india
