though considered the biggest hurdle for aiims, a/r questions are not so difficult as you may think of them. a/r are just different and so require a different strategy. a/r questions check the depth of your concepts.
in these questions, first a statement is put forward, known as ASSERTION and then a second statement is made to be related with assertion and known as REASON
there are four options given:
a) both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A
b) both A and R are true and R is not the correct explanation of A
c) A is true and R is false
d) both A and R are false
strategy:
just follow the following steps (in correct sequence) to make sure that you answer a/r correctly
- read A very carefully- if you know the concept then good, if you don't know the concept being talked about in A then leave the question for time being and move to next question (time is precious)
- if you know the concept on which A is based, decide whether A is true or false
- if A is true-read the R; if A is false- the answer is (d)
- if A is true, read R very carefully: if you know the topic- very good, if you don't mark the question as * and return to it in the end of the paper
- if you know the topic of R, decide whether it is true or false
- if R is true- try relate it with A; if R is false- the answer is (c)
- if R is true try to relate it with A by using- because, therefore and since- if you can relate them to form a correct statement- answer is (a)
- if you are not able to relate- answer is (b)
- be very careful between (a) and (b); most students make the mistake here
read your textbooks very carefully- every line- during your preparations. mark keywords like- because, since and therefore- wherever you find them as questions are based around these keywords
practise as many a/r as you can. for this purpose , i am starting a 90 day series; starting today! in this series, you are going to get selected a/r questions from every topic and all three subjects. there will be 15 a/r per day and 5 per subject thus totalling for 1350 a/r for whole 90 day series.
as you can see, even by practising for 15 minutes per day, you are getting ample practice of a/r in all subjects. this is how toppers prepare- small, consistent efforts
every day a post will be published under the tag- assertion and reason- containing 15 questions; 5 each in physics, chemistry and biology. the detailed solution(containing thought process) will be published next day along with next 15 a/r questions and this will go on for 90 days
if you don't want to miss any of the post in test series, i recommend you to subscribe to the posts via e-mail. this enable you to get every post made on this blog( a/r+ exam alerts+ description of various pmt's+ special articles and study tips) delivered right in your e-mail id. this is done by feedburner( a very trusted company supplying feeds) and so your e-mail address is not revealed to anyone. moreover, you also get the free subscription to our monthly magazine - THE PMT MASTER EZINE- FREE!
